Can a marriage celebrant legally marry same-sex couples in Australia?

Yes. Since marriage equality passed in December 2017, I'm fully authorised to officiate weddings for same-sex couples, exactly the same as any other marriage. Legally, there's no difference in the process, the paperwork, or the outcome.

Is a same-sex ceremony any different from a straight ceremony?

Nope, same heart, same structure, just your story. LGBTQIA+ couples get the exact same attention to detail, personalisation and legal rigour as every other couple I work with. The only thing that changes is the story we're telling.

Do we have to use traditional terms like "bride" and "groom"?

Not at all. I write every ceremony from scratch around how you two actually want to be described, whether that's "partners," "grooms," "brides," your names, or something else entirely. It's your day, your language.

Can our ceremony include non-traditional elements or rituals?

Absolutely. Whether you want something completely traditional or want to throw the rulebook out the window, I'll help you build a ceremony (readings, rituals, unity moments, walk-in arrangements) that actually reflects you two rather than a template.

Do you travel for same-sex weddings outside the Gold Coast and Tweed Coast?

Yes. While I'm based between the Golnd Tweed Coast and regularly work across Brisbane, Byron Bay and the Sunshine Coast, I travel around Australia (and have officiated overseas too) for the right couple and the right date.

Being a part of the wedding industry, I debated whether I wanted to go down the path of celebrancy when there was a huge moral objection that stood in my way: marriage equality. I refused to advocate and officiate for a system that did not legally allow same sex couples the right to marriage. That was until December 9, 2017.

Let's just get this out of the way, a Dylan Bond same-sex marriage ceremony is no different from any other ceremony, with the exception of your love story and journey. LGBTQIA couples, as well as straight couples, can choose to be as traditional or alternative as they like.
